Sky Cinema are the latest to attempt to compete with the big brands for Christmas 2017. Their advert pulls at the heart strings centering around the classic musical The Sound of Music. The advert tells the moving story of a mother and daughter and all of the Christmases they have spent together over the course of 25 years. Starting with a four-year-old girl watching the film for the first time. It is no coincidence that the Sound of Music was one of the first movies to be broadcast on Sky in 1989. The advert then continues to show the girl in her teenage years, a travelling gap year and then the daughter as a mother herself continuing the Christmas tradition. The music in the advert is a classical cover of the infamous Sound of Music track ‘Favourite Things’ from the 1959 broadway musical and later released and famously performed by Julie Andrews in the 1965 film.
